Chief accountant

Reporting to the CFO, the Assistant Controller plans and carries out all finance and accounting tasks for the various VA Group entities. He/she is also responsible for preparing budgets and cash flows, and for ensuring the effectiveness of existing controls.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning, organization and control of accounting department activities in collaboration with the CFO;
  • Develop, elaborate and improve accounting and governance policies, procedures and internal control rules;
  • Prepare monthly company financial statements, including budget variance analysis;
  • Prepare and maintain the company's monthly and annual financial forecasts;
  • Closely manage cash flow to ensure that the company meets its financial obligations;
  • Analyze the company's financial performance and propose solutions to maintain and develop the profitability of operations;
  • Recommend improvements to ensure the integrity of the company's financial information;
  • Oversee the implementation and updating of financial systems;
  • Hire, train and retain qualified accounting and finance personnel;
  • Prepare annual audit file;
  • Payroll supervision;
  • Define and develop, in collaboration with management, the main key performance indicators and take charge of the monthly dashboard process;
  • Manage and maintain good relations with suppliers;
  • Identify and manage business risks and insurance requirements.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years' relevant experience in a similar position;
  • Customer-focused (internal and external) and committed to a high-performance, agile culture;
  • Experience in the logistics and/or transportation industry an asset;
    CPA accounting designation required;
  • Experience with accounting software, payroll systems and Microsoft Office suite tools - Knowledge of AS400 and Microsoft Dynamics GP an asset;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills;
  • Teamwork, good attitude and leadership skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proactive, organized and structured;
  • Bilingualism, written and spoken.
